Mimetics participated in the 2024 Cosmoprof Asia exhibition, held in Hong Kong from the 13th to the 15th, where it unveiled its new cosmetic-infused negative-pressure patch.
Celebrating its 27th edition this year, Cosmoprof Asia is the largest B2B beauty trade show in Asia, featuring approximately 2,800 exhibitors and attracting over 80,000 visitors, including industry professionals from around the world.
Founded as a student startup at Sungkyunkwan University, Mimetics specializes in biomimetic technologies inspired by nature. The company has filed more than 30 domestic and international patents and completed five technology transfers to date.
Through research, Mimetics discovered that the microscopic three-dimensional dome structures of octopus suction cups generate negative pressure, enabling strong adhesion across diverse environments and surface types. Leveraging this principle, the company is actively developing transdermal drug delivery systems. The negative-pressure patch offers eco-friendly adhesion without leaving sticky chemical residues, and tests comparing it with commercially available patches and tapes showed up to four times lower skin irritation.
The new cosmetic-infused negative-pressure patch is a skin-adhesive patch that can carry various cosmetic formulations—such as toners, creams, and lotions—using the octopus suction structure. As an all-in-one product, a single patch delivers the intended dosage to the skin without waste. Active ingredients like retinol, peptides, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid can be appropriately combined to target wrinkles, brightening, and hydration. Testing demonstrated that the patch achieves 2–4 times greater skin penetration depth compared to conventional cosmetics and patches, and Mimetics is preparing a pilot production line for this new product.
Hyung-ki Park, CEO of Mimetics, said, “Through Cosmoprof Asia, we introduced our next-generation cosmetic-infused negative-pressure patch for the first time and directly experienced the interest of global buyers. Designed with both innovative technology and user convenience as top priorities, we confirmed its potential for success in the global market. Moving forward, we plan to expand our presence in the global cosmetics market leveraging Mimetics’ unique competitive advantage.”
