[MyDaily = Reporter Jooyoung Cheon] Mimetics Co., Ltd. announced on the 12th that it sponsored the 2024 Colloid and Interface Symposium (COINS 2024).

Hosted by the Korean Society of Polymer Science, COINS 2024 was held from July 3 to 5 at Ewha Womans University. The symposium focused on colloids and interfaces used across various industries, including semiconductors, displays, cosmetics, and secondary batteries, featuring lectures from over 20 invited domestic and international speakers.

Mimetics, which began as a student startup at Sungkyunkwan University, has steadily enhanced its R&D capabilities over the past five years in collaboration with Professor Chang-Hyun Bang and his research team. To date, the company has filed over 30 domestic and international patents and completed four technology transfers.

The company leverages biomimetic technology to provide skin care and medical solutions. Through research, it elucidated the principle that the micro three-dimensional dome structures of octopus suction cups generate physical negative pressure, enabling adhesion regardless of environmental or surface conditions. Using this technology, Mimetics has developed a wearable drug delivery patch platform for the transdermal drug delivery market.

CEO Hyung-ki Park stated, “We are honored to participate in such a meaningful event, and we hope that opportunities like this will help cultivate more talented individuals. This year, Mimetics has developed a patch that mimics the octopus suction structure to achieve physical adhesion even in underwater environments. A product combining this patch with cosmetics to enhance absorption will be launched in July.”
